Kayla from Earth: Concept Art
Kayla from Earth is a sci-fi adventure story I have in development. A fun, action-packed romp with an 80’s buddy-cop vibe. It’s something I have been working on, off and on, for the last couple years. I’ve yet to decide if I want to realize this as a comic book, a graphic novel, or a series of animated shorts. Or maybe all of the above! In the meantime, I’ll keep posting snippets of images here and there when I get the time.
Kayla from Earth
A Sci-Fi Adventure Drama
Centuries after “The Great Fall”—a catastrophic space battle that left dozens of city-ships stranded on an alien world—an uneasy peace has formed between once-warring species. Now, the towering metropolis of Fallhaven thrives, but beneath its surface simmers a growing unrest. A string of terrorist attacks threatens to upend the fragile order, and hardened detective Lyra is convinced she knows who’s responsible: a notorious outlaw known only as Kayla from Earth.
No records exist of Kayla’s species, nor does any star chart recognize her alleged homeworld. To most, she’s an enigma; to the desperate and downtrodden, she’s a legend. For the past decade, Kayla and her ragtag crew: Kruk, a hulking warrior with the strength of ten men; Zal, a hyper-intelligent, shapeshifting sludge alien; and Nyal, a deadly sniper with a dancer’s grace, have become infamous as intergalactic Robin Hoods, stealing from corrupt elites and redistributing their spoils to those in need. But for Kayla, it’s more than just survival. She is chasing a mystery that has haunted her since the night she vanished from Earth.
Ten years ago, Kayla awoke on a derelict alien vessel, trapped among eerie stasis pods and containment cells filled with unknown species. The ship, seemingly abandoned, was drifting through deep space until it was caught in the gravitational pull of Fallhaven’s planet. She and Zal barely survived the crash, emerging into a world they did not understand. Now, as her infamy grows, so too does the hunt for her.
Detective Lyra, a relentless investigator with a strict code of justice, has made it her mission to bring Kayla down. With her loyal partner, Soro—a massive, lion-headed enforcer with a sharp mind and a hidden past—she tracks Kayla through the neon-lit streets and crime-ridden underbelly of Fallhaven. But the deeper Lyra digs, the more she begins to suspect that Kayla may be the key to something far greater than just a crime spree. Somewhere in the forgotten ruins, obscured by a sea of mist or buried deep beneath the city’s underbelly, lies an ancient secret, one that may hold the answers to why Kayla was taken and how every stranded soul on this planet might finally return home.
As both hunter and hunted race toward the truth, alliances will shift, loyalties will be tested, and the line between justice and vengeance will blur. Kayla’s fight is no longer just about survival—it’s about uncovering the secret that could change everything.
A high-stakes sci-fi adventure with the grit of an ’80s buddy-cop thriller, Kayla from Earth is a story of outlaws, lawmen, and the search for a way home.
